Would you want to be a vet?

Posted by: admin In: Pet Care

So what are the details of becoming a vet? What do you study, does it cost alot and what does it involve?

It can take just as long to become a veterinary surgeon as it can to become a docotor, as after school you need to attend four years of college and then four years of veterinary school to begin with. Getting a placement at an animal hospital can help with credit, but it wont make your time any shorter actually in college. In the USA alone there are only twenty eight vet schools, so youll have to fight off many other people in order to get in. When becoming a vet you will not only be taught about the various diseases, but also the huge number of different animal speices that you may have to attend to in your veterinary career. People who want to become doctors have to familarise themselves with the human structures, but a vet will have quite afew speices to learn in order to become a vet. You have to also realise there are many speices of animals that some vets can treat exclusively. The same as the bar exam taken by lawyers, the final college exam, if failed wont let you work for a veterinary practice or treat sick animals. Passing the state exam doesnt allow you to practice law in all other states, which means you need to think about which state you take the exam in.

Even when you becoming a vet your constantly learning new methods and medical techiniques to better serve animals. Vets also have to take a veterinary oath, but is that fact really that surprising? They are doctors to, only their patients are more hairer and walk on four legs. The most horrible thing about being a vet might be coming attached to an animal that you cant save and in the end, you have to put them down to stop there suffering- not an easy thing to do. Remeber that, because you may find it hard to cope with.

So, if this sound like a career you really feel you have the passion to do, you may want to think about becoming a veterinary surgeon.

  • Nathaniel: It is important to protect your pet against fleas and ticks. One way to do this is to apply
  • cat brush: The tools on the market today such as the furminator make it so easy to groom your cat. I no longer go to professional groomers.
  • Jodi Adams: I agree, it's always good to research and understand the pets needs before getting one. They are also great companionship for seniors. Cheers Jod
