Mini Pet Turtles
Mini pet turtle won’t eat what should we do?
We just got a mini turtle at the fair and the person who was selling them told us to give him turtle food or veggies he won’t eat either what should we do he looks happy???
I gotta agree with kazaloful, their is no such turtle as a mini turtle, but you cant be sure youve got a slider either…unless im missing something and you have a pic somewhere. or have identified him online.
Everything else is correct though, almost every turtle (especially the babies) need heated (about 18 -22 degrees celcius) water so take him out of the cold water and put him in a dry box (for up to 2 hours) make sure you put a lid on it as their great climbers and to reduce stress. Go to your pet store during these two hours with a picture of him and enquire what breed he is, (if its a slider) you will have to buy a heater for his tank, and ensure he has a place to get out of the water (a basking area), he wont die short term without a light but its very possible he will drown if he has nowhere to get out (of the water) and rest, pet stores have lots of floats etc. for just this purpose.
Im afraid if its a slider you need to start thinking what your going to do when he becomes an adult, my 3 year old female is 9 inches and lives in a 250 gallon tank like she deserves, she also has a LARGE basking area, a hill of stones under the water (they like to dig) and a hide (to reduce stress).
Please dont leave him in cold water as hes too young to survive it, the people at your local pet store are the people you need to go to ASAP, if you cant care for him, put him in a classifieds add or donate him to a reptile owner in your area that can care for him properly.
Whatever you do, try researching online, google ”slider turtle” or ”box turtle” or ”map turtle” and youll find loads of info.
