Look After Your Pets By Following These Spring Health Care Tips
Posted by: admin In: Pet Care
The approach of summer brings new considerations for securing your pet’s welfare – these tips will ensure that you are adequately prepared.
Now spring has sprung and April showers may be pouring down on owners everywhere, it could be a good idea to ensure you have the best pet health care plan in place for your four-legged friends this season.
The sometimes considerable amounts of chocolate and other confectionery not eaten during Easter can be very welcome in the period approaching May. However, these goodies are toxic to cats and dogs – so no matter how much your canine companion begs, don’t let him eat a morsel of it. The last thing you need is a sick pet and a claim on your pet insurance. As an alternative you could give him a specially-prepared pet treat?
Our furry friends are as averse to spring cleaning as are their owners. Animals can be stressed by all the furniture moving and harsh chemicals. To avoid this stress you can spring clean the bigger room whilst your pet is in a smaller one?
If you spring clean with natural cleaning fluids like vinegar and baking soda instead of harsh modern ones, the process will be much more healthy for your pets.
Your dog is likely to find himself left in the garden for longer periods as the weather improves. However, you should make sure that your pet cannot get out of the garden through an open gate or a hole in fence or hedge before letting him out of the house.
The American Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPCA) points out the fact many pet owners like to take their moggies and mongrels in the car with them on long spring journeys – so it is important to practise good road safety in this case.
“Flying debris and insects can cause inner ear or eye injuries and lung infections, and abrupt stops or turns can cause major injury or worse,” the pet health care centre observes.
Provide your pet with a comfortable carrier so that you are not distracted by his wandering about in the vehicle whilst you are driving. A pet that managed to climb onto the driver’s seat and get in the way of the brake pedal could cause a major accident.
To avoid leaving your pet in the car on a hot day – a possibly fatal mistake – put the carrier on the front seat next to you where it will act as a reminder. In the absence of such a carrier on the front seat you can avoid the pet being left in the car by making one passenger responsible for taking him out.
If you are planning to take your pet on holiday with you, remember to check the terms of your pet insurance, as a good policy will include some vet’s fees cover whilst abroad.
Employing these simple tips will keep your four-legged companions happy and healthy this spring and summer, so that you can relax and enjoy the time with your animal friends!
