Halloween Costumes For Pets

Posted by: admin In: Pet Care

halloween night is always fun; what other holiday lets you dress up in costume, hand out candy to kids you don’t know, and maybe even have a scary surprise or two? There is no reason that your pet cannot get in on all of the fun — minus the chocolate, of course. In recent years, designers have begun manufacturing pet Halloween costumes. Pet costumes are becoming increasingly popular in retail stores, including those online, and can be found in a wide assortment of themes including super heroes and villains.

With the internet being the largest (virtual) shopping mall in the world, the selection of halloween costumes is much greater. Designers and specialty stores have the opportunity to showcase their latest ideas and fabrics to please even the pickiest of pet owners. With halloween costumes being lightweight, even the possible cost of shipping fees isn’t likely to be a significant one.

When selecting pet costumes, it’s smart to measure your cat or dog beforehand so you know what size to purchase. Remember, that not all costumes will be available in a one-size-fits-all. Actually, the vast majority outfits are custom made for different types and sizes of animals, often taking into account breeds. Labrador retrievers and poodles probably wouldn’t enjoy the same size costume, so avoid designers who use one-size-fits-all designs.

You want your animal friend to have fun and be comfortable on Halloween; you need to take care when choosing proper halloween dog costumes. As they are already covered in fur, try to find a fabric that breathes and is lightweight. It’s good to keep in mind that pets will probably resist halloween costumes initially, simply because it’s a new concept. If you want to have your furry friend out and about in their costume on halloween night, take a few days prior to accustom them to it. One way to do this is by showing them the costume, putting it on for a few minutes and then removing it. Be sure to give them plenty of praise and a treat to help reinforce that behavior. It won’t take long for you pet to not only not fight the wearing of the costume, but be happily anticipating the treat they know is going to come. Be certain to carry some extra treats with you that night – after all, they can’t have chocolate, and everyone deserves a special treat on halloween.

  • cat brush: The tools on the market today such as the furminator make it so easy to groom your cat. I no longer go to professional groomers.
  • Jodi Adams: I agree, it's always good to research and understand the pets needs before getting one. They are also great companionship for seniors. Cheers Jod
